things are they

39
00:04:03,560 --> 00:04:08,360
don't quite go together do they these

40
00:04:09,799 --> 00:04:16,680
do could be some hysterical frightened

41
00:04:12,920 --> 00:04:19,040
boy I don't think so in my experience an

42
00:04:16,680 --> 00:04:21,160
aesthetical frightened boy stabs once

until he was

46
00:04:25,560 --> 00:04:31,720
exhausted now this girl was killed in

00:04:28,280 --> 00:04:31,720
hate not fear

48
00:04:32,680 --> 00:04:36,520
I should say she was a

49
00:04:34,600 --> 00:04:38,560
student now if she's in the habit of

50
00:04:36,520 --> 00:04:40,080
going away for the weekend she may not

51
00:04:38,560 --> 00:04:42,320

believe he came in when he said he did

132
00:09:56,200 --> 00:10:00,519
but his grief seemed genuine enough I

133
00:09:58,640 --> 00:10:02,120
never know with these monkeys can act

134
00:10:00,519 --> 00:10:03,760
their heads off when it suits them bring

135
00:10:02,120 --> 00:10:05,040
out the yard and get them to ask the BBC

136
00:10:03,760 --> 00:10:07,640
to broadcast with the driver of that

137
00:10:05,040 --> 00:10:08,800
black console right meanwhile take a

138
00:10:07,640 --> 00:10:10,399
look at that girl's room before our

139
00:10:08,800 --> 00:10:14,800
brother gets

140
00:10:10,399 --> 00:10:17,760

142
00:10:17,760 --> 00:10:23,200
naturally an orderly child she did her

143
00:10:19,839 --> 00:10:25,959
best did you like her indeed I did I I

144
00:10:23,200 --> 00:10:28,279
felt sorry for her her parents were dead

145
00:10:25,959 --> 00:10:30,079
and she wanted so much to to be counted

146
00:10:28,279 --> 00:10:32,519
in to belong

147
00:10:30,079 --> 00:10:34,440

149
00:10:34,440 --> 00:10:36,680
very

150
00:10:40,519 --> 00:10:45,440

165
00:11:59,279 --> 00:12:04,920
the same thing and didn't like it could

166
00:12:02,519 --> 00:12:06,680

something unexpected was always

190
00:13:34,560 --> 00:13:40,880
happening how did you sound excited I

191
00:13:38,760 --> 00:13:45,000
thought what sort of a girl was your

192
00:13:40,880 --> 00:13:46,920
sister happy Lively exactly as she

193
00:13:45,000 --> 00:13:49,639
looked no

194
00:13:46,920 --> 00:13:54,720
no that's not quite true is

195
00:13:49,639 --> 00:13:59,199
it are you were you SE as half brother

196
00:13:54,720 --> 00:14:03,680
no our father was a doctor white our

197
00:13:59,199 --> 00:14:03,680
mother singer black as I

198
00:14:04,320 --> 00:14:08,440
am you never know which way it's going

199
00:14:06,720 --> 00:14:11,440
to

200
00:14:08,440 --> 00:14:13,199
go since seire came to London she

201
00:14:11,440 --> 00:14:16,040
learned to pass for

202
00:14:13,199 --> 00:14:17,240
white did David haris know that your

203
00:14:16,040 --> 00:14:20,399
sister was

204
00:14:17,240 --> 00:14:22,240
colored I don't know I knew a little of

205
00:14:20,399 --> 00:14:23,839
saphire's life up here she seemed happy

206
00:14:22,240 --> 00:14:29,120
I didn't pry

207
00:14:23,839 --> 00:14:29,120
further my sister was 21 you know

208
00:14:29,160 --> 00:14:33,440
why did you let her come to London uh

209
00:14:31,320 --> 00:14:34,959
she wanted to come I didn't see why she

210
00:14:33,440 --> 00:14:37,160
shouldn't have the same chance as any

211
00:14:34,959 --> 00:14:39,560
other youngster I'm a bachelor I could a

212
00:14:37,160 --> 00:14:43,160

214
00:14:43,160 --> 00:14:48,160
remember I hardly listened s why i'

215
00:14:45,560 --> 00:14:51,279
shattered so

216
00:14:48,160 --> 00:14:54,600
much it's

217
00:14:51,279 --> 00:14:57,399
unbelievable I can see her now sitting

218
00:14:54,600 --> 00:14:59,920
on the table in my Consulting room

219
00:14:57,399 --> 00:15:02,759
swinging her legs

220
00:14:59,920 --> 00:15:06,800
laughing twittering like a

221
00:15:02,759 --> 00:15:11,120
bird patience waiting but on she

222
00:15:06,800 --> 00:15:11,120
went I could have slept her

223
00:15:11,519 --> 00:15:15,519
sometimes who would do such a

224
00:15:17,360 --> 00:15:20,959

but the point is when and that's a very

338
00:21:50,919 --> 00:21:55,279
important Point find anything upstairs

339
00:21:53,919 --> 00:21:58,200
no nothing all his clothes were clean

340
00:21:55,279 --> 00:22:01,720
and put away H pretty Rocky aliab young

341
00:21:58,200 --> 00:22:04,159
ha is is familiar motive too it's all

342
00:22:01,720 --> 00:22:05,799
too Pat for my liking you know if he'd

343
00:22:04,159 --> 00:22:07,840
married that girl he' probably couldn't

344
00:22:05,799 --> 00:22:10,880
have taken up that scholarship he

345
00:22:07,840 --> 00:22:12,080

346
00:22:10,880 --> 00:22:15,840

348
00:22:15,840 --> 00:22:25,440
[Music]

349
00:22:22,640 --> 00:22:27,520
away yes sir I did see Young Harris

350
00:22:25,440 --> 00:22:30,080
walking home on Saturday night what time

351
00:22:27,520 --> 00:22:31,559
was that oh was near 11 this makes no

352
00:22:30,080 --> 00:22:35,120
difference and he was coming from the

353
00:22:31,559 --> 00:22:36,960
post office from that direction so what

354
00:22:35,120 --> 00:22:39,520
sort of people are the harrises all very

355
00:22:36,960 --> 00:22:41,760
respectable sir Cut Above the average

356
00:22:39,520 --> 00:22:43,559
Mrs Harris was a school

357
00:22:41,760 --> 00:22:44,520
teacher how long have they known the

358
00:22:43,559 --> 00:22:48,960
girl was

359
00:22:44,520 --> 00:22:50,200
colored what yes she was you know oh I

360
00:22:48,960 --> 00:22:53,640
shouldn't have thought they knew that at

361
00:22:50,200 --> 00:22:56,919
all sir he's very bigoted Ted Harris and

362
00:22:53,640 --> 00:22:58,520
very ambitious for his son oh very Ted

363
00:22:56,919 --> 00:23:00,600
Harris has skipped himself to do for

364
00:22:58,520 --> 00:23:03,120
baby mind you the boys repaid it all

365
00:23:00,600 --> 00:23:05,600
with that scholarship he's won and the

366
00:23:03,120 --> 00:23:08,960
daughter oh Millie's her father all over

367
00:23:05,600 --> 00:23:11,320
again dancing classes for the twins

368
00:23:08,960 --> 00:23:14,480
elocution must have that bit

369
00:23:11,320 --> 00:23:17,320
extra the husband's a sailor Merchant

370
00:23:14,480 --> 00:23:20,760
Navy bit of a lad sidf far doesn't seem

371
00:23:17,320 --> 00:23:23,440
to get much leave or doesn't want

372
00:23:20,760 --> 00:23:25,640
it can you find out if Harris used his

373
00:23:23,440 --> 00:23:28,600

you only saw him coming from the

376
00:23:29,960 --> 00:23:35,880
direction of the post office that's no

377
00:23:32,440 --> 00:23:38,679

382
00:23:50,520 --> 00:23:57,120

394
00:24:36,000 --> 00:24:41,480
pregnant I've seen the autopsy yes but

395
00:24:38,760 --> 00:24:45,559

396
00:24:41,480 --> 00:24:48,600
her if he did we'll get him rest assured

397
00:24:45,559 --> 00:24:51,200

503
00:30:19,320 --> 00:30:23,399

504
00:30:21,799 --> 00:30:26,720
her brother and tell him that Davey

505
00:30:23,399 --> 00:30:28,279
would stand by her she laughed and said

506
00:30:26,720 --> 00:30:31,200

507
00:30:28,279 --> 00:30:33,720

509
00:30:33,720 --> 00:30:39,600

00:31:06,159 --> 00:31:10,639
school yes I remember the girl she used

522
00:31:09,279 --> 00:31:12,880
to spend quite a bit of money here she

523
00:31:10,639 --> 00:31:15,360
was a good customer for a little while

524
00:31:12,880 --> 00:31:16,320
when about 67 months ago did she come

525
00:31:15,360 --> 00:31:19,519
alone

526
00:31:16,320 --> 00:31:21,960
usually except once well when she had a

527
00:31:19,519 --> 00:31:24,880
young fellow with her then toling boy

528
00:31:21,960 --> 00:31:27,440
Fair no I remember being very surprised

529
00:31:24,880 --> 00:31:30,880
she was such a dainty kid and he was a

530
00:31:27,440 --> 00:31:33,840
great big colored chap

531
00:31:30,880 --> 00:31:36,519
colored a great big colored chap she

532
00:31:33,840 --> 00:31:37,880
said H the other side of the picture

533
00:31:36,519 --> 00:31:41,000
before she learned she could pass for

534
00:31:37,880 --> 00:31:42,159
white really it's a doctor in Bloomsbury

535
00:31:41,000 --> 00:31:44,600
says Sapphire went to see him on

536
00:31:42,159 --> 00:31:47,279
Saturday morning tell him we'll be right

537
00:31:44,600 --> 00:31:49,679
over Sergeant ring up the Royal College

538
00:31:47,279 --> 00:31:52,320
of Music and see if they have any record

539
00:31:49,679 --> 00:31:54,279
of Sapphire's previous addresses he good

540
00:31:52,320 --> 00:31:56,159
sir oh and then you can nip over to the

541
00:31:54,279 --> 00:31:59,639
Harris's place and see if any of the

542
00:31:56,159 --> 00:32:01,919
neighbors saw the girl leave on Saturday

543
00:31:59,639 --> 00:32:04,200
thank no she wasn't a regular patient

544
00:32:01,919 --> 00:32:05,519
I'd never seen her before she rang for

545
00:32:04,200 --> 00:32:07,600
an immediate appointment I saw her at

546
00:32:05,519 --> 00:32:10,080
12:30 on Saturday did you tell her at

547
00:32:07,600 --> 00:32:13,120
once yes she was bursting to know was

548
00:32:10,080 --> 00:32:14,880
she upset no on the contrary excited

549
00:32:13,120 --> 00:32:17,480
delighted at having her own suspicions

550
00:32:14,880 --> 00:32:20,760
confirmed what name did she use the one

551
00:32:17,480 --> 00:32:24,000
on the card Mrs

552
00:32:20,760 --> 00:32:26,279
Harris did she tell you she was colored

553
00:32:24,000 --> 00:32:28,559
no she didn't mention it no bet she

554
00:32:26,279 --> 00:32:30,679
didn't but uh you you can always tell

555
00:32:28,559 --> 00:32:32,639
can't you no inspector as a matter of

556
00:32:30,679 --> 00:32:35,919
fact you can't

557
00:32:32,639 --> 00:32:38,080
what I can tell him a mile away oh I

558
00:32:35,919 --> 00:32:39,440
don't know inspector would you say you

559
00:32:38,080 --> 00:32:42,080
were a

560
00:32:39,440 --> 00:32:44,039
policeman what well you haven't got very

561
00:32:42,080 --> 00:32:46,120
big feet have

562
00:32:44,039 --> 00:32:48,960
you don't they say you can always tell a

563
00:32:46,120 --> 00:32:51,880
policeman a mile off by the size of his

564
00:32:48,960 --> 00:32:54,600
feet oh that's bloody

565
00:32:51,880 --> 00:32:56,519
silly yes isn't

566
00:32:54,600 --> 00:32:58,880
it well I'm afraid there's nothing we

567
00:32:56,519 --> 00:33:00,760
can do about Leroy's feet

568
00:32:58,880 --> 00:33:02,880
but regarding the girl was there

569
00:33:00,760 --> 00:33:05,480
anything else about her that struck you

570
00:33:02,880 --> 00:33:08,799
yes I thought she was rather nice person

571
00:33:05,480 --> 00:33:10,919
well thank you Doctor not at all be most

572
00:33:08,799 --> 00:33:13,390
helpful goodbye

573
00:33:10,919 --> 00:33:16,499
goodbye

574
00:33:13,390 --> 00:33:16,499
[Applause]

575
00:33:17,919 --> 00:33:21,840
goodbye she must have been pretty sure

576
00:33:19,880 --> 00:33:24,279
about young haris at any rate thought he

577
00:33:21,840 --> 00:33:27,039
take the doctor's news happily enough

578
00:33:24,279 --> 00:33:29,080
perhaps you s the boy up wrongly any of

579
00:33:27,039 --> 00:33:30,720
the girls addresses come through yes sir

580
00:33:29,080 --> 00:33:32,519
a house in Bloomsbury before that a

581
00:33:30,720 --> 00:33:34,360
place in er's court and another lead

582
00:33:32,519 --> 00:33:37,320
Chelsea Woman's Hospital we'll try er's

583
00:33:34,360 --> 00:33:37,320
Court first yes

584
00:33:40,080 --> 00:33:45,120
sir yes I remember safire Robbins what

585
00:33:43,080 --> 00:33:46,799
sort of a girl was she nice enough girl

586
00:33:45,120 --> 00:33:49,919
considering she was

587
00:33:46,799 --> 00:33:52,200
colored oh you new then I guessed you

588
00:33:49,919 --> 00:33:54,760
can always tell to weer to please laugh

589
00:33:52,200 --> 00:33:56,960
too much noisy with a grammar phob but I

590
00:33:54,760 --> 00:33:58,720
never mind so long as they don't look it

591
00:33:56,960 --> 00:33:59,919
still I I had to get rid of her in the

592
00:33:58,720 --> 00:34:02,120
end

593
00:33:59,919 --> 00:34:04,399
why couldn't risk upsetting the other

594
00:34:02,120 --> 00:34:06,600
tenants some big colored L started

595
00:34:04,399 --> 00:34:08,760
calling for her La as your hat he was

596
00:34:06,600 --> 00:34:10,839
well I run a White House you never can

597
00:34:08,760 --> 00:34:13,879
tell where the others are going to kick

598
00:34:10,839 --> 00:34:15,839
what was this Fell's name I don't know

599
00:34:13,879 --> 00:34:17,200
did she get any phone calls one or two

600
00:34:15,839 --> 00:34:19,399
from the international club and her

601
00:34:17,200 --> 00:34:21,480
brother were you surprised when sappire

602
00:34:19,399 --> 00:34:25,000
got herself killed all depends upon how

603
00:34:21,480 --> 00:34:27,960
much hate she stirred up hate I dare say

604
00:34:25,000 --> 00:34:30,560
she was passing for white so would you

605
00:34:27,960 --> 00:34:33,320

609
00:34:38,839 --> 00:34:43,720

instance good Lord no why well if you

684
00:38:21,319 --> 00:38:26,359
didn't it doesn't

685
00:38:23,079 --> 00:38:28,119
matter what sort of a girl was Sapphire

686
00:38:26,359 --> 00:38:31,079
oh neither one thing or F when I knew

687
00:38:28,119 --> 00:38:34,240
her I imagine she changed after she got

688
00:38:31,079 --> 00:38:38,599
this yen to marry light if you know what

689
00:38:34,240 --> 00:38:39,880
I mean I do that ruled you out anyway

690
00:38:38,599 --> 00:38:41,319
the question of marriage between

691
00:38:39,880 --> 00:38:43,760
Sapphire and myself could never have

692
00:38:41,319 --> 00:38:46,640
Arisen how's that my father would never

693
00:38:43,760 --> 00:38:49,480
have permitted it well why not Safi came

694
00:38:46,640 --> 00:38:53,240
from a good home her brother's a

695
00:38:49,480 --> 00:38:53,240

700
00:39:20,480 --> 00:39:26,880
you did he ask about Johnny no good if

701
00:39:25,200 --> 00:39:28,720
my old man knew I'd been around places

702
00:39:26,880 --> 00:39:31,560
like T he'd cut off my allowance and

703
00:39:28,720 --> 00:39:34,520
yanked me back home is this policeman

704
00:39:31,560 --> 00:39:36,079
likely to get onto it shouldn't think so

705
00:39:34,520 --> 00:39:38,640
didn't strike me as being overburdened

706
00:39:36,079 --> 00:39:40,839
with brains

707
00:39:38,640 --> 00:39:44,560
sanctimonious I was so careful to have

708
00:39:40,839 --> 00:39:50,119
his hand out first I know we're all the

709
00:39:44,560 --> 00:39:50,119
children of God forget it

[Music]

711
00:39:58,000 --> 00:40:01,960
I see you've been talking to

712
00:39:59,599 --> 00:40:05,839
Slade I suppose he's got a cast down

713
00:40:01,960 --> 00:40:07,960
Alibi yes

714
00:40:05,839 --> 00:40:12,880
yeah but there's something you didn't

715
00:40:07,960 --> 00:40:15,400
want me to know what's that I don't

716
00:40:12,880 --> 00:40:16,960
know he said he met Sapphire at the

717
00:40:15,400 --> 00:40:20,040
international

718
00:40:16,960 --> 00:40:21,160
Club get on to him find out what time

719
00:40:20,040 --> 00:40:25,079
all the kids would like to be there

720
00:40:21,160 --> 00:40:26,520
together okay yes what is it Sergeant oh

721
00:40:25,079 --> 00:40:28,079
it's about Young Harris sir what about

722
00:40:26,520 --> 00:40:32,480
him he's up on the Heath he's been there

723
00:40:28,079 --> 00:40:32,480
all the afternoon looking for something

724

oh you pushed it down the drain sir was

729
00:41:29,480 --> 00:41:32,480
quite deliberate so I thought I'd best

730
00:41:31,359 --> 00:41:34,760
find out what it

731
00:41:32,480 --> 00:41:37,560
was well it's a piece of

732
00:41:34,760 --> 00:41:40,720
wood what's been painted at some time

733
00:41:37,560 --> 00:41:44,400
look you can see the red and blue marks

734
00:41:40,720 --> 00:41:46,000
yeah being jointed at both ends must

735
00:41:44,400 --> 00:41:48,400
have come off

736
00:41:46,000 --> 00:41:50,520
something off what I

737
00:41:48,400 --> 00:41:52,119
wonder take this to the lab and see what

738
00:41:50,520 --> 00:41:54,680
they make of it very go

739
00:41:52,119 --> 00:41:56,599
you now why on Earth should that boy be

740
00:41:54,680 --> 00:41:57,510
so anxious to find that and then get rid

741
00:41:56,599 --> 00:42:13,640
of it

there you are the two of

1079
01:03:34,640 --> 01:03:39,920
them in Congress aren't they no I

1080
01:03:37,799 --> 01:03:42,359
wouldn't say that she wasn't any

1081
01:03:39,920 --> 01:03:45,039
delicate flow you know just the same as

1082
01:03:42,359 --> 01:03:47,760
him underneath besides he didn't look so

1083
01:03:45,039 --> 01:03:52,319
black to her then

1084
01:03:47,760 --> 01:03:52,319
no let's take a look around

1085
01:04:11,000 --> 01:04:15,559
look at

1086
01:04:12,160 --> 01:04:15,559
this and

1087
01:04:18,760 --> 01:04:27,279
this look like Young Harris is in the

1088
01:04:23,000 --> 01:04:30,680
clear yeah it looks that way

1089
01:04:27,279 --> 01:04:30,680
let's see what the lab has to say about

1090
01:04:40,680 --> 01:04:47,799
it it's quite a long trip what from here

1091
01:04:44,599 --> 01:04:50,559
to hamstad Heath it's the other side of

1092
01:04:47,799 --> 01:04:52,400
London how the devil did he get there oh

1093
01:04:50,559 --> 01:04:54,319
that'll be a simple answer to the

1094
01:04:52,400 --> 01:04:57,400
transport you'd really like it to be

1095
01:04:54,319 --> 01:04:59,200
this colored boy wouldn't you

1096
01:04:57,400 --> 01:05:00,640
message over the car radio sir there's a

1097
01:04:59,200 --> 01:05:04,400
gentleman at the station says he drove

1098
01:05:00,640 --> 01:05:04,400
Mr David Harris from Cambridge last

1099
01:05:04,640 --> 01:05:07,640
Saturday

1100
01:05:09,119 --> 01:05:13,279
hey there's your transport for

1101
01:05:14,180 --> 01:05:19,639
[Music]

1102
01:05:22,520 --> 01:05:26,160
you these Spades are a load of trouble I

1103
01:05:25,079 --> 01:05:28,000
reckon we should tell them back where

1104
01:05:26,160 --> 01:05:30,440
they came from we wouldn't have half

1105
01:05:28,000 --> 01:05:32,760
this bother if they weren't here I

1106
01:05:30,440 --> 01:05:33,960
suppose you're right just the same as

1107
01:05:32,760 --> 01:05:36,240
you wouldn't have old ladies being

1108
01:05:33,960 --> 01:05:38,839
covered by Hooligans of the wly old

1109
01:05:36,240 --> 01:05:40,920
ladies so what do you do get rid of the

1110
01:05:38,839 --> 01:05:43,520
Hooligans or the people they

1111
01:05:40,920 --> 01:05:45,279
bash look Phil given the right

1112
01:05:43,520 --> 01:05:47,960

1117
01:06:08,960 --> 01:06:13,480
time did you put him down I dropped him

1118
01:06:11,079 --> 01:06:15,720
at the post office around

1119
01:06:13,480 --> 01:06:16,880
6:00 he said it was only 10 minutes walk

1120
01:06:15,720 --> 01:06:18,960
away from where he

1121
01:06:16,880 --> 01:06:22,599
lived are you

1122
01:06:18,960 --> 01:06:26,319
sure I wouldn't be here if I

1123
01:06:22,599 --> 01:06:28,480
wasn't do you deny this

1124
01:06:26,319 --> 01:06:31,680
what's the

1125
01:06:28,480 --> 01:06:33,880
use well thank you

1126
01:06:31,680 --> 01:06:36,599
Z I hope you haven't wasted too much of

1127
01:06:33,880 --> 01:06:40,160
your time oh it's quite all

1128
01:06:36,599 --> 01:06:40,160
right sorry old

1129
01:06:42,119 --> 01:06:45,920
chap well sit down Mr

1130
01:06:49,599 --> 01:06:55,279
Harris what time did you get home on

1131
01:06:52,319 --> 01:06:57,520
Saturday 11:00 you heard what the man

1132
01:06:55,279 --> 01:06:57,520
said

1133
01:06:57,960 --> 01:07:02,599
dad I got back to town at 6:00 I didn't

1134
01:07:00,880 --> 01:07:03,400
get home till 11:00 then what did you do

1135
01:07:02,599 --> 01:07:06,799
in

1136
01:07:03,400 --> 01:07:09,160
between walked about then I went to the

1137
01:07:06,799 --> 01:07:12,000
pictures well why didn't you see this

1138
01:07:09,160 --> 01:07:13,359
before I didn't want my father to know

1139
01:07:12,000 --> 01:07:16,559
he worries if I go to the pictures too

1140
01:07:13,359 --> 01:07:21,000
often in turn time thinks it strains my

1141
01:07:16,559 --> 01:07:21,000
eyes give me your glasses

1142
01:07:26,680 --> 01:07:31,760
which Cinema did you go to the

1143
01:07:29,640 --> 01:07:34,039
RIT what were you doing on Hamstead

1144
01:07:31,760 --> 01:07:34,039
Heath

1145
01:07:34,160 --> 01:07:40,039
yesterday if I told you you wouldn't

1146
01:07:36,000 --> 01:07:40,039
believe me well just try will

1147
01:07:42,480 --> 01:07:47,279
you I wanted to see where it

1148
01:07:44,880 --> 01:07:50,640
happened I had had some idea I might

1149
01:07:47,279 --> 01:07:56,039
stumble on something something I'd

1150
01:07:50,640 --> 01:07:56,039
recognize and you wouldn't and did you

1151
01:08:03,839 --> 01:08:07,400
no how about

1152
01:08:08,520 --> 01:08:13,039
this why are you so anxious to get rid

1153
01:08:10,839 --> 01:08:13,039
of

1154
01:08:13,400 --> 01:08:16,520
this I

1155
01:08:17,600 --> 01:08:22,400
didn't I I never saw it

1156
01:08:20,000 --> 01:08:26,080
before I'm told it's part of a child's

1157
01:08:22,400 --> 01:08:27,799
doll a wooden doll a leg possibly is

1158
01:08:26,080 --> 01:08:29,520
that what you think it is well I don't

1159
01:08:27,799 --> 01:08:31,719
think it's

1160
01:08:29,520 --> 01:08:34,359
anything Ju Just a piece of wood I was

1161
01:08:31,719 --> 01:08:38,799
doodling with you admit picking it up

1162
01:08:34,359 --> 01:08:41,359
then yes you just said you didn't uh I

1163
01:08:38,799 --> 01:08:43,880
I'd forgotten stop lying Harris you were

1164
01:08:41,359 --> 01:08:45,359
seen pushing this down a drain why I

1165
01:08:43,880 --> 01:08:47,239
don't know I don't know you mean you

1166
01:08:45,359 --> 01:08:48,520
won't say now on your way home from the

1167
01:08:47,239 --> 01:08:50,080

1172
01:08:54,679 --> 01:08:58,640

1173
01:08:56,679 --> 01:09:00,440

1174
01:08:58,640 --> 01:09:04,480

1196
01:10:15,880 --> 01:10:19,600
very human lie boy didn't want to upset

1197
01:10:18,159 --> 01:10:22,320

01:10:30,520 --> 01:10:36,600
of everything not even us cable fettis

1203
01:10:33,360 --> 01:10:36,600

1205
01:10:41,199 --> 01:10:47,199
the club till late on Saturday night

1206
01:10:43,960 --> 01:10:47,199

1207
01:10:47,239 --> 01:10:53,760

1208
01:10:50,120 --> 01:10:55,440

1209
01:10:53,760 --> 01:10:57,520
impression he'd been there all evening

1210
01:10:55,440 --> 01:10:59,199
no he didn't no his daughter took it for

1211
01:10:57,520 --> 01:11:02,239
granted and we naturally

1212
01:10:59,199 --> 01:11:04,640
followed you let to run and SE try and

1213
01:11:02,239 --> 01:11:06,000
bounce into giving something away we

1214
01:11:04,640 --> 01:11:09,080
still haven't had the report on Johnny

1215
01:11:06,000 --> 01:11:12,280

1219
01:11:19,560 --> 01:11:23,040
information is he didn't get there until

1220
01:11:21,120 --> 01:11:24,640
10:00 you're not trying to suggest that

1221
01:11:23,040 --> 01:11:26,000
he had anything to do with it I'm not

1222
01:11:24,640 --> 01:11:30,480
saying he did I merely want to know

1223
01:11:26,000 --> 01:11:30,480
where he was then ask him

1224
01:11:30,520 --> 01:11:36,199

1225
01:11:32,960 --> 01:11:38,560
your house yes and I suppose really you

1226
01:11:36,199 --> 01:11:41,159
were all as much to blame as

1227
01:11:38,560 --> 01:11:42,520
David what do you mean well you should

1228
01:11:41,159 --> 01:11:44,639
have made her so welcome if you didn't

1229
01:11:42,520 --> 01:11:47,320
want him involved with a colored girl we

1230
01:11:44,639 --> 01:11:51,120
didn't know she was colored not

1231
01:11:47,320 --> 01:11:56,000
until not until when Mrs far not until

1232
01:11:51,120 --> 01:11:56,000

1233
01:11:56,040 --> 01:12:01,199

1234
01:11:59,320 --> 01:12:02,800

1235
01:12:01,199 --> 01:12:06,199
from top to bottom you'll not find a

1236
01:12:02,800 --> 01:12:10,719
speck of blood or a trace of

1237
01:12:06,199 --> 01:12:10,719
sapphire thank you Mrs V

1238
01:12:26,230 --> 01:12:29,290

down to Richmond the Miller at the dairy

1247
01:13:17,320 --> 01:13:21,199
oh thank you you might find Mr Harris in

1248
01:13:19,719 --> 01:13:25,880
the paint shed but you'll have to go

1249
01:13:21,199 --> 01:13:25,880
around the Y at the back for that thanks

1250
01:13:41,440 --> 01:13:44,120
no he's not

1251
01:13:52,440 --> 01:13:57,159
here I'd like to know what's underneath

1252
01:13:54,679 --> 01:13:58,960
that dust she now we haven't got enough

1253
01:13:57,159 --> 01:14:01,960
evidence to get a search warant for this

1254
01:13:58,960 --> 01:14:01,960
place

1255
01:14:02,080 --> 01:14:08,480

1256
01:14:05,679 --> 01:14:09,880
packed house how could she remember you

1257
01:14:08,480 --> 01:14:11,679
didn't make this up in the spur of the

1258
01:14:09,880 --> 01:14:13,679
moment did you if the boy says he went

1259
01:14:11,679 --> 01:14:15,560
to the pictures he went to the pictures

1260
01:14:13,679 --> 01:14:17,400
you sound like the police if I'm going

1261
01:14:15,560 --> 01:14:19,560
to help you I got to think like a police

1262
01:14:17,400 --> 01:14:21,520
it's no use bugling they got a very good

1263
01:14:19,560 --> 01:14:23,400
circumstantial case they've got no case

1264
01:14:21,520 --> 01:14:25,080
at all the boy didn't do it and if you

1265
01:14:23,400 --> 01:14:26,679
can't clear him I will you hope you can

1266
01:14:25,080 --> 01:14:29,280
can that's know I can I know shut up

1267
01:14:26,679 --> 01:14:29,280
talking across

1268
01:14:31,199 --> 01:14:34,560
me he's never talked to me like that in

1269
01:14:33,800 --> 01:14:37,080
his

1270
01:14:34,560 --> 01:14:40,840
life perhaps is a side to the boy you've

1271
01:14:37,080 --> 01:14:43,920
never seen Mr Harris I know my own

1272
01:14:40,840 --> 01:14:47,440

1391
01:23:53,000 --> 01:23:59,080
marry this boy yes I I think she did

1392
01:23:57,840 --> 01:24:01,040
well David's father here has been

1393
01:23:59,080 --> 01:24:04,639
insisting all along that he's willing to

1394
01:24:01,040 --> 01:24:05,880
let the marry that's right Assuming he's

1395
01:24:04,639 --> 01:24:08,639
saying the truth that would have left

1396
01:24:05,880 --> 01:24:09,719
the decision with David did your sister

1397
01:24:08,639 --> 01:24:12,560
give you the impression that he would

1398
01:24:09,719 --> 01:24:16,719
have married her I don't know that I can

1399
01:24:12,560 --> 01:24:19,400
answer that I mean we we never really

1400
01:24:16,719 --> 01:24:20,760
discussed I've told you over and over

1401
01:24:19,400 --> 01:24:23,400
again

1402
01:24:20,760 --> 01:24:25,000
yes but supposing your father were lying

1403
01:24:23,400 --> 01:24:26,840
and didn't want you to marry

1404
01:24:25,000 --> 01:24:28,760
I didn't care but you cared about your

1405
01:24:26,840 --> 01:24:30,880
scholarship didn't you you cared about

1406
01:24:28,760 --> 01:24:32,360
your career manage would have stopped

1407
01:24:30,880 --> 01:24:36,280
all that it wasn't me that was mad about

1408
01:24:32,360 --> 01:24:38,280
the career so you say I wouldn't

1409
01:24:36,280 --> 01:24:39,760
know you may have thought that a bit of

1410
01:24:38,280 --> 01:24:42,119
fun was one thing but that marriage was

1411
01:24:39,760 --> 01:24:43,760
too high a price to pay for it this boy

1412
01:24:42,119 --> 01:24:48,159
couldn't do anything like don't need you

1413
01:24:43,760 --> 01:24:48,159
to defend our David mildre

1414
01:24:55,159 --> 01:24:59,360
how about you Mr

1415
01:24:56,840 --> 01:25:01,960
Harris you had your reasons too didn't

1416
01:24:59,360 --> 01:25:04,760
you I didn't wish her any harm of course

1417
01:25:01,960 --> 01:25:06,800
not she was going to marry David that's

1418
01:25:04,760 --> 01:25:08,600
what you said wasn't it that's right I

1419
01:25:06,800 --> 01:25:11,119
gave him my word he would but she didn't

1420
01:25:08,600 --> 01:25:12,920
marry him did she she would have done

1421
01:25:11,119 --> 01:25:14,239
would have done if you hadn't stopped

1422
01:25:12,920 --> 01:25:16,360
her is that what you mean that's not

1423
01:25:14,239 --> 01:25:18,920
true I didn't wish her any harm none of

1424
01:25:16,360 --> 01:25:21,440
us did we liked her we liked her if

1425
01:25:18,920 --> 01:25:24,320
David wanted her that was the end that

1426
01:25:21,440 --> 01:25:26,960
was good enough shut up why don't you

1427
01:25:24,320 --> 01:25:28,040
telling the truth you hated her all you

1428
01:25:26,960 --> 01:25:30,320
ever wanted was for me to be an

1429
01:25:28,040 --> 01:25:31,960
architect my boy an architect you were

1430
01:25:30,320 --> 01:25:33,560
going to send me away but you you hated

1431
01:25:31,960 --> 01:25:35,880
her so much that you

1432
01:25:33,560 --> 01:25:38,800
finally get him

1433
01:25:35,880 --> 01:25:40,360
out don't want his hands on my kids toys

1434
01:25:38,800 --> 01:25:42,880
don't want him near my kids don't want

1435
01:25:40,360 --> 01:25:47,000
his dirty hands on my children tearing

1436
01:25:42,880 --> 01:25:47,000
up my family they're mine

1437
01:26:01,679 --> 01:26:06,239
you really hate colored people don't you

1438
01:26:04,880 --> 01:26:08,520
you really hate

1439
01:26:06,239 --> 01:26:10,159
them and with sapphire you couldn't

1440
01:26:08,520 --> 01:26:14,199
control

1441
01:26:10,159 --> 01:26:14,199
yourself and that's why you killed

1442
01:26:18,360 --> 01:26:23,719
her it wasn't like

1443
01:26:21,600 --> 01:26:26,320
that it wouldn't have happened if she

1444
01:26:23,719 --> 01:26:29,600
hadn't come to the

1445
01:26:26,320 --> 01:26:32,400
dairy I'd locked up drawn the blinds she

1446
01:26:29,600 --> 01:26:34,520
banged on the door and called to me I

1447
01:26:32,400 --> 01:26:37,840
had to let her

1448
01:26:34,520 --> 01:26:41,040
in she said she was Fred up waiting for

1449
01:26:37,840 --> 01:26:41,040
David wanted my

1450
01:26:41,119 --> 01:26:47,280
company she sat on the counter all the

1451
01:26:43,440 --> 01:26:51,400
time I was tining up sweeping doing L's

1452
01:26:47,280 --> 01:26:51,400
work swinging her legs and

1453
01:26:51,760 --> 01:26:55,400
laughing she couldn't see what she'd

1454
01:26:53,719 --> 01:26:58,560
done she didn't

1455
01:26:55,400 --> 01:27:01,679
care ruining David's

1456
01:26:58,560 --> 01:27:04,520
life ruining Dez's

1457
01:27:01,679 --> 01:27:06,400
dream when I said she'd better watch out

1458
01:27:04,520 --> 01:27:09,960
David might prefer to give her 10 b a

1459
01:27:06,400 --> 01:27:13,000
week for the yellow brat and keep his

1460
01:27:09,960 --> 01:27:14,920
scholarship she laughed in my face and

1461
01:27:13,000 --> 01:27:17,280
said David didn't care what color the

1462
01:27:14,920 --> 01:27:19,440
baby was or what color she was he wanted

1463
01:27:17,280 --> 01:27:22,800
her and i' forgotten what that was like

1464
01:27:19,440 --> 01:27:25,320
i' forgotten what it was like to be

1465
01:27:22,800 --> 01:27:27,800
wanted she was taunting me with Sid

1466
01:27:25,320 --> 01:27:29,800
never coming

1467
01:27:27,800 --> 01:27:31,719
home then she jumped down from the

1468
01:27:29,800 --> 01:27:34,040
counter put her hand on my shoulder and

1469
01:27:31,719 --> 01:27:35,600
said give the twins Auntie saphire's

1470
01:27:34,040 --> 01:27:37,960
love tell them we'll have a new little

1471
01:27:35,600 --> 01:27:37,960
